Now in our 35th season, Valley Youth Theatre is celebrating the impact we've made on the lives of hundreds of thousands of children and their families through stage productions, classes, camps and community outreach programs. As a non-profit, VYT is shepherded by an amazing group of talented, mission-focused individuals that guide the organization.
Our Board of Directors has a lot of fun and makes a positive change in the lives of young people. However, they also understand that Board service is a big responsibility. That's why if you are considering Board service with VYT, we want to let you know upfront the commitment that all of our board members make. Here is what is expected of our board members:
YOUR JOB AS A BOARD MEMBER
VYT's board members serve as an ambassador to the organization and promote its mission: To inspire young people to be the best they can be through a wide variety of performing arts opportunities.
BOARD TERMS
VYT's Board of Directors serve for a 3-year term, which is renewable for additional 3-year terms upon the approval from the board. Board members also commit to identifying and helping to recruit at least one viable Board candidate annually. Board members also must identify and help recruit their replacement if they decide to leave the board at the end of their three-year term.
BOARD COMMITMENT
★ We expect that our board members serve as an ambassador to the organization. Board members are VYT's best mouthpieces! VYT Board members actively promote season productions and events to everyone they can -- from thier friends and neighbors to the barista, the bank teller... everone you meet!
★ Board members consistently attend and actively participate in all Board meetings. This includes reading and studying Board materials in advance, including but not limited to the minutes and financials, regarding key actions the Board is expected to take at the next meeting. Board meetings are usually held on the 4th Tuesday each month at 5:30 pm.
★ Actively participate on at least one Board committee.
★ Because board members are guiding the organization, we expect that our members will keep board matters confidential.
★ Attend and actively participate in the annual Board retreat and complete all required and requested paperwork.
★ Attend the (preferably Opening Night) performance of each of the productions each season, including any opening night receptions held prior to the Opening Night performance. This is the perfect time to invite a potential new donor or potential new board member as well!
★ Attend at least one audition, company meeting, or rehearsal per year.
★Participate in VYT's yearly fundraiser, VYTAL Affair and at least one other fundraising event per year.
FINANCIAL COMMITMENT
Each board member is expected to make a personal financial contribution to VYT in an amount that they feel would best impact the organziation. In addition, VYT's board members commit to the following:
★ Raise a minimum of $5,000 a year (Give or Get).
★ Pay $500.00 annually in Board dues within the first quarter of the fiscal year (beginning July 1). Board dues will be prorated by quarter for new Board members joining after the beginning of the fiscal year. These Board dues provide each Director with 4 tickets to each show in VYT's season.
